After partaking in "angular" guitar-driven rock bands for more than half of a decade together, Kevin Davison (Kopaz)
and Sean Gardner (Denovo & Kopaz) of Columbus, Ohio, decided to follow a new muse. Bound by the common desire to compose slower, more simplistic ideas,
they formed MeltyMelty in early 2006.
The point of the band is to sculpt songs that are textured with hook-
riddled melodies and intertwining instrumentation, while keeping
composition on the side of simplicity. The majority of their work is
composed on guitars, layered with samples, loops and vibraphone.
The result is deceptively simple pop songs layered with catchy melodies
and noisy soundscapes.
The live show is where the band is most interesting. Sean sings, plays
guitars, drums and keys while Kevin plays synths with his hands and feet
while singing and playing bass guitar. They've recently added recording
engineer, Mark Himmel, for live drums and vibraphone as well.
MeltyMelty sites bands such as Blonde Redhead, The Beauty Pill, Enon
and Pinback as modern influences and has shared the stage with XIU XIU,
The Double, Pattern Is Movement, Metal Hearts and Mazarin.
